Format of the answer

I KNOW what the answer is, I checked it letter by letter and everything. And I know which machine is broken, I've tried entering just the letters, commas separated, space separated, with the broken machine last, in reverse order, (just in case you put sausages in a machine backwards), but nothing is correct. Yet I know I'm right. I've got carefully written letters to prove it. Am I missing something?

Hello all you brainy people SIMON, HELEN, JG, RICH and others. I am a dunce and a duffer who can't solve this without asking two simple questions from you super-intelligent people. I need simple and direct answer to the questions
1. Is the answer 6-letter or 7-letter?
2. Which machine is not used?

Argh. I can find a solution which uses all seven machines. I'm hoping for a post-and-solve as I try to figure out how to remove one of the machines and still figure out how to make it work.
